ANALISIS KESULITAN SISWA MENYELESAIKAN SOAL CERITA DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA SISWA KELAS VIII SMP KARTIKA 1-6 PADANG

SUMMARY

 

This research is motivated by the number of students who have difficulty in solving math story problem. In addition, the value of the daily test of mathematics class VIII SMP Kartika I-6 Padang academic year 2016/2017 there are still many who are under the KKM. For that we need to analyze the difficulties experienced by students as well as describe the factors causing students experiencing such difficulties.

The purpose of this research are: 1) to analyze the difficulties experienced by the students of grade VIII SMP Kartika I-6 Padang in solving the math story problem; 2) Describe the factors that cause the students of grade VIII SMP Kartika I-6 Padang difficulty in solving math story problems.

The type of this research is descriptive research and using qualitative research method. The study population is all students of class VIII SMP Kartika I-6 Padang. Sampling using technique of proposive sampling and chosen class VIII2 as sample research. The research instruments are diagnostic test and interview.

The results of this study indicate that: 1) students who have difficulty concept 42.85%; 2) difficulty of principle 28,57%; 3) algorithm difficulty 92,85%; 4) concept and principle difficulties 3.57%, 5) principles and algorithms 3.57%; 6) concepts and algorithms 14.28%; And 7) students experiencing difficulty of 28.57% concepts, principles and algorithms. Factors that cause students to experience difficulties are; 1) individual factors of intelligence, learning mode, and physiological conditions; 2) social factors such as how to teach teachers, learning facilities, relationships with friends, and relationships with parents / family.

From the results of the above research suggested that teachers should teach more focus on students' understanding of the material and pay attention to the prerequisite material that must be mastered by students before studying new material. In addition, teachers should also analyze the difficulties that are often experienced by students in solving the story problem so as to determine the appropriate steps to overcome these difficulties.
