One of the factors causing many grades of VII students SMPN 16Padang under Minimum Criterion (KKM) is the lack of understanding of students' mathematical concepts. Therefore, teachers should be able to choose a model of learning that can improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts. One of the learning model that can be used is learning model probing prompting learning.

The purpose of this study is to determine the understanding of mathematical concepts of students during applied Learning Model probing prompting learning and to know the understanding of mathematical concepts of students using Learning Models probing prompting learning better than the understanding of mathematical concepts that use regular learning grade VII SMPN16 Padang students.

The research question is "How to understand the concept of mathematics students during applying the Learning Model of Probing Prompting Learning on VII SMPN 16 Padang?". The hypothesis of this research is the understanding of mathematical concepts of students whose learning to apply Learning Model of probing prompting learning is better than the understanding of mathematical concepts of students applying regular learning to grade VII students of SMPN 16 Padang.

The type of this research is experimental research. The population of the study were students of class VII SMPN 16 Padang registered in the academic year 2016/2017. For sampling done by Random Sampling technique and experimental class chosen is VII4 class and control class selected is class VII2 .Hypothesis used t-test test at α = 0,05. Based on data analysis with hypothesis test calculation obtained P = 0.002 <0,05 then hypothesis H0 rejected, mean hypothesis that accepted is hypothesis H1.

Thus, the proposed hypothesis is accepted that the understanding of mathematical concepts of students whose learning applying Learning Model probing prompting learning better than understanding the concept of mathematics students who apply regular learning to students in grade VII SMPN 16 Padang in the academic year 2016/2017. The author suggests that teachers can use this learning model as an alternative to make the students' mathematics learning outcomes better.
