EFFECT OF NUMBER OF POPULATION, GRDP, MINIMUM WATER PROVINCE, AND EDUCATION LEVEL TO UNEMPLOYMENT IN WEST SUMATERA

SUMMARY
The high unemployment rate in a country can have a negative impact on the economy of the country. Where, unemployment will be a burden in itself, not only for the government, but also affect the family, the environment and so forth. In addition, high levels of unemployment can also increase the number of criminals, increase social unrest, and increase poverty in a country.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), unemployment is a term for people not working at all, looking for work, working less than two days a week, or someone trying to get a job.
One of the goals of economic development is to overcome unemployment, many factors that can cause unemployment. This study aims to examine the effect of population, GRDP, provincial minimum wage and education on unemployment in West Sumatra. This study uses secondary data during the period of 2000-2016 which is sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of West Sumatra. While the data analysis used is multiple linear regression analysis using program package Eviews 8.
The results of this study show: 1) the number of population has a negative and significant effect on unemployment, 2) GDP has negative and not significant impact on unemployment, 3) provincial minimum wage has positive and significant impact on unemployment, 4) education level negatively and significantly affect unemployment.
