Abstract

The big problem facing developing countries , especially Indonesia is inequality ( disparity ) income distribution . Unequal income distribution income inequality trigger . Inequality of income distribution has an impact not only in the economic field but also can trigger social and political inequality . Therefore , efforts to reduce the unequal distribution of income is an effort to help strengthen political stability .
The analytical tool used in this research is the analysis of Williamson Index . This study uses secondary data over a period of nine provincial GDP per capita in Indonesia and the population of the nine provinces in Indonesia in 2002-2011.
Williamson's analysis of the index shows that the economic disparities between the nine provinces in Indonesia during the period 2002-2011 was equal income levels ketimpanagn rate is as high as the index value greater than 0.39 or close to one ( 1 ) . cause of this inequality is related potentials and capabilities of each region in promoting regional economic growth .
