Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the Gross Regional Domestic Product
(GRDP) in West Sumatra Province during the 2017–2023 period. The independent variables
used include education level, open unemployment rate, poverty rate, and Human
Development Index (HDI). The analytical method employed is panel data regression with the
Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The results show that education level has a positive and
significant effect on GRDP, while the open unemployment rate has a negative but
insignificant effect. Poverty has a positive yet insignificant relationship with GRDP, whereas
HDI is proven to have a positive and significant effect. Simultaneously, these four variables
contribute to variations in GRDP in West Sumatra. The findings emphasize the importance of
improving human capital quality through education and human development as the main
drivers of regional economic growth, as well as the need for more effective strategies to
reduce unemployment and poverty so that the benefits of growth can be felt inclusively.
