Abstract

Poverty is a multidimensional problem that can be viewed from various angles. this
study aimed to analyze the impact of population, economic growth, education, and the
unemployment rate to the level of poverty pasaman west sumatera province.
THIS research is a quantitative research using time series data (years 2004-2013). data
used in this research is secondary data obtained from the central bureau of statistics as well as
supporting research journals. regression method used is the method of multiple linear
regression (ordinary least square) using spss 15.0 software tools.
Results of the analysis showed that population and the unemployment rate has a
significant effect on the number of poor people in pasaman province of west sumatera, but
the economic growth and education has no significant effect on the rate reduction in pasaman
west sumatera. regression results show that the r-squared value of the independent variable
(total population, economic growth, education and, unemployment) on the dependent variable
(rate reduction) has a value of 0.871, which means 87.10 percent level of poverty in west
sumatera pasaman influenced by total population, economic growth, education, and the
unemployment rate. while 12.90 percent of the rest is explained by other variables outside the
model used.
