Abstract

Human development in West Sumatera need attention because achievements are still low HDI value caused by the low quality of human resources and the problem of poverty. The low value of IPM problems caused by poverty causes people unable to enjoy education, health, and also decent standard of living.
The purpose of this study was to analyze and prove how much influence the average - the average length of schooling of the population, life expectancy, real spending per capita, and the number of poor District / City to human development in West Sumatra province. The analytical method used is ordinary least squares using multiple linear regression model. With as many as 5 years of observation, the data is processed by using SPSS 15.0
The results of this study showed that the average - the duration of schooling, life expectancy, real spending per capita population significant effect on the Human Development Index in the province of West Sumatra, while the number of poor people not significant effect on the human development index in the province of West Sumatra.
