Abstract

The aim of this study to prove whether the variable infant mortality, life expectancy
and literacy rates have an impact on economic development in the city of Padang. The data
used in this research is time series data from 2000 to 2014 were obtained from the Central
Agency on Statistics. To see the relationship and the influence of each variable that we use
multiple linear regression analysis, by testing the classical assumptions such as test normality
test, multikolonearitas, heteroscedasticity, autocorrelation test, and test statistical among test
of determination (R2), t test, and test F.
These results indicate that the variable infant mortality, life expectancy, literacy
rates are able to contribute to the dependent variable amounting to 90.67 percent, while the
remaining 9.33 percent is explained by other factors. life expectancy and literacy rate has a
significant impact on economic development in the city of Padang, while the infant mortality
rate did not significantly affect economic development in the city of Padang
