Abstract

ABSTRACT

The crime of forest destruction namely illegal logging is regulated in Article 82 paragraph (1) of Law Number 18 Year 2013 concerning Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction. On October 7, 2018 the West Sumatra Provincial Forest Police received a report from the community that a crime had been committed in the destruction of the forest, namely illegal logging in the Mandeh tourism area. Formulation of the problem: (1) What is the role of the West Sumatra Provincial Forestry Police in investigating the crime of forest destruction in the Mandeh tourism were? (2) What are the obstacles encountered by the West Sumatra Provincial Forestry Police in investigating the crime of forest destruction in the Mandeh tourism were? This type of research was sociolegal research. Data sources are primary data and secondary data, data collection techniques are through interviews and document studies, the data were analyzed qualitatively. Conclusions of the study: 1. The role of the West Sumatra Provincial Forestry Police in investigating forest destruction is to receive reports from the community, case incidents and find evidence in the form of neatly cut wood 2. Obstacles encountered by the West Sumatra Provincial Forestry Police in investigating criminal acts forest destruction is the lack of human resources, facilities and infrastructure, funding, and geography.
