Broadcasting content that contains elements of violence such as physical violence and non-physical violence violates the provisions of Article 36 paragraph (5) of Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting. Case in point one of Trans 7 television stations broadcasting content in which scenes of possession and creepy appearances and the process of calling spirits outside of airtime. Formulation of the problem: 1) What is the role of the West Sumatra Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission in preventing content that contains elements of violence? 2) How is the application of sanctions imposed by the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission of the West Sumatra Region on broadcasters that broadcast broadcast content that contains elements of violence? This research was conducted by a sociological juridical approach. Sources of data in the form of primary data and secondary data. Interview data collection techniques and document study. Data were analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study (1) the role of the West Sumatra KPID in preventing violence is to supervise local broadcasting institutions for 24 hours, to see first hand the broadcast content that is broadcast. (2) Application of sanctions given by West Sumatra KPID to broadcasters; ordinary sanctions namely reprimands and administrative sanctions. Severe sanctions in the form of temporary stopping, limiting duration, freezing of broadcast activities, not being granted permission to extend broadcasting licenses and revocation of broadcast management licenses.
