Abstract

The development of information technology is very rapid, so it is misused by someone doing prostitution transactions using social media. Enforcement of perpetrators of prostitution is ensnared by Article 2 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 21 Year 2007 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Trafficking in Persons. As the "RA" the source of prostitution through social media will be examined criminologically to find out the driving factors of the crime. Problem formulation 1) What are the factors that cause the practice of prostitution through social media in the West Sumatra region? 2) What is the effort of the West Sumatra Regional Police in overcoming the practice of prostitution through social media? This research was conducted by a sociological juridical approach. Sources of data in the form of primary data and secondary data. Interview data collection techniques and document study. Data were analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study 1) factors that cause the practice of prostitution through social media in the region of West Sumatra, namely a) social factors b) lifestyle factors c) economic factors d) factors of lack of parental supervision e) factors of lack of environmental awareness f) factors of lack of morals g) technological development factors are misused 2) the efforts of the West Sumatra Regional Police in overcoming the practice of prostitution through social media in the form of a) preventive efforts, conducting legal socialization and cooperating with several agencies b) repressive efforts, making arrests, arresting pimps, handing over victims to social services.
