Indonesia Automatic Finger Print Identification System (Inafis) is a unit that plays a role in identifying a person through scientific means, by means of fingerprint examination in the crime scene. As stipulated in article 15 paragraph (1), Law No. 2 of 2002 about the Republic of Indonesia police said that, "take the first action on the crime scene, retrieve fingerprints and other identities and photograph person, search for a description and evidence, receive and store the findings for a while ". The problem raised in this study is, 1) How is the role of Indonesia Automatic Finger Print Identification System (Inafis) of West Sumatera regional police in exposing perpetrators of murder criminal, 2) What are the obstacles faced by Indonesia Automatic Finger Print Identification System (Inafis) in exposing perpetrators of criminal acts of murder. The study used a sociological juridical approach. Data collection techniques are done by technical means of data analysis and data are analyzed qualitatively. Conclusion of research results: 1) The role of Inafis unit: the implementation of crime scene processing, shooting and fingerprint capture, fingerprint development, examination and fingerprint comparison. 2) Constraints: Undocumented community fingerprints in the police, weather factors, and lack of public knowledge.
