ABSTRAK Foods that contain hazardous substances are foods that use hazardous chemicals and are used by business actors to improve the quality of taste, durability, and coloring. Until now, the circulation of food containing harmful substances is still widely circulated in the market. Therefore, the role of BPOM is needed. Problem Formulation: 1) What is the role of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency in controlling food containing hazardous substances in the city of Padang? 2) What are the factors that hinder BPOM's role in controlling food containing hazardous substances in Padang City? 3) What efforts have been made by the BPOM on food containing hazardous substances in Padang City? This type of research is sociological juridical. Data collection techniques were obtained through interviews and document studies. The results of the study are 1) The form of supervision carried out by BPOM is by sampling or being tested by BPOM conducting a feasibility test or field test first regarding the food 2) Obstacles faced by BPOM in the field are the dishonesty of business actors in explaining what ingredients are contained in food made 3) Efforts made by BPOM, namely by conducting counseling to the community and preventively this can be done with the results of sample testing.References
