Abstract

ABSTRAK Traditional medicine is medicine made from natural ingredients such as plants, animals, and minerals, which are formulated to be safe for health and can be used by the community for generations. Consumer protection is a term used to refer to legal protection provided to consumers to prevent harm. This research uses a sociological legal approach. Data collection techniques were obtained through interviews and document studies. The data were analyzed qualitatively. Research findings: 1) Legal protection for consumers is provided by the Padang BPOM, which acts as an institution for the supervision of drugs and food, actively conducting pre-market and post-market supervision. There are also sanctions for business actors. 2) The responsibility of business actors in distributing traditional medicines includes responsibility for damage, responsibility for pollution, and responsibility for consumer losses resulting from consuming both produced and traded goods. If business actors are found to be selling illegal traditional medicines, they will be given a strong warning. If they continue to violate the law, they will be sanctioned by being called in and continued to Pro Justitia.
