In the pursuit of inmate rehabilitation goals, the correctional system grapples with operational challenges within correctional facilities, notably amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, the provision of assimilation presents a prominent challenge. Governed by Article 62 of the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia (No. 3/2018), assimilation's intricate implementation necessitates effective and efficient rule adherence. Research focuses on the effectiveness of assimilation for inmates during the pandemic at Women's Correctional Institution Class II B in Padang City. Challenges include the time-consuming process of acquiring assimilation permits and the absence of guarantor families for some inmates. Findings reveal that assimilation effectively reduces facility congestion, aiding in breaking the COVID-19 transmission chain. However, assimilation mandates certain conditions, excluding recidivist inmates. In conclusion, the application of assimilation in Women's Correctional Institution Class II B encounters hurdles, underscoring the importance of streamlining processes and addressing family support issues.References
