Abstract

Traffic violations committed by students in Padang City are a recurrent issue, with the Padang City Traffic Unit (Satlantas) playing a pivotal role in addressing and preventing such infractions. In accordance with Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Republic of Indonesia National Police, this study aims to address two primary research questions: (1) The role of the Padang City Traffic Unit (Satlantas) in mitigating traffic violations by students in Padang, and (2) The obstacles faced by the Padang City Traffic Unit (Satlantas) in addressing student traffic violations in Padang. This research adopts a socio-legal approach, utilizing both Primary and Secondary Data. Data collection techniques involve interviews and document studies, followed by qualitative analysis. The research findings conclude that the Padang City Traffic Unit (Satlantas) holds a significant role in addressing traffic violations by students, including conducting routine patrols around school areas, organizing traffic safety campaigns, and enforcing laws against student violations. Challenges encountered by the Padang City Traffic Unit (Satlantas) in addressing student traffic violations in Padang include a lack of cooperation from violators, weather conditions, and limited student awareness regarding the importance of traffic rules. Enhancing awareness and cooperation among Satlantas, students, and the community are key to addressing these issues effectively.
