KAJIAN YURIDIS TERHADAP EKSISTENSI NEGARA TIMOR LESTE DALAM DINAMIKA STATUS KEANGGOTAAN PENUH DI ASEAN (ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH EAST ASIAN NATIONS)

Abstract

ABSTRACT The main goal of a country in carrying out international relations is to protect its national interests which may not be fully fulfilled domestically. Therefore, the country needs to pursue its national interests beyond its borders. Timor Leste's desire to become part of ASEAN is based on their foreign policy and geographical position close to the ASEAN region. This step is also in line with Timor Leste's diplomatic principles which encourage active cooperation with ASEAN and their efforts to become members of ASEAN. Timor Leste's process of joining ASEAN was carried out in stages. 1) What are the rules regarding membership in the ASEAN regional organization? 2) Juridical study of the existence of the State of Timor Leste in the dynamics of ASEAN membership? Type of normative legal research, namely legal research carried out by examining library materials or secondary data. Research results 1) ASEAN membership is regulated in the ASEAN Charter Article 6 Paragraph 2, procedures for applying for and accepting ASEAN membership must be regulated by the ASEAN Coordinating Council 2) Juridical study of the existence of the State of Timor Leste in the dynamics of ASEAN membership which discusses the processes of Timor Leste joining ASEAN.
