Abstract

Consumer protection is the totality of regulations and laws that regulate the rights and obligations of consumers and producers that arise in their efforts to meet their needs and regulate efforts to ensure the realization of legal protection for consumer interests. In the large Indonesian dictionary, protection comes from the word lindung which means to protect, prevent, defend and fortify. Problem formulation: 1) How is the Consumer Protection Law Implemented for Buyers at the Pekanbaru People's Market? 2) What are the obstacles in implementing consumer legal protection in the Pekanbaru City People's Market? 3) How is the Pekanbaru City Government Efforts to Overcome Obstacles in Implementing Consumer Legal Protection? The research method used is sociological juridical. Research data sources are primary data and secondary data. Data collection tools are interviews and document studies. Analyze data in a qualitative way. Research conclusion: The research results show that the implementation of legal protection for consumers in the people's market in Pekanbaru City is not optimal. Several problems are still found, such as: 1) Lack of consumer knowledge and understanding of their rights; 2) Minimal supervision and law enforcement by the authorities; 3) Low awareness of business actors to comply with consumer protection provisions. Efforts that can be made to increase legal protection for consumers include: increasing education and outreach, strengthening supervision and law enforcement, as well as increasing awareness and responsibility of business actors.
