PENGGUNAAN HAK VETO OLEH AMERIKA SERIKAT TERHADAP UPAYA KEANGGOTAAN PENUH PALESTINA DI PERSERIKATAN BANGSA-BANGSA

Abstract

ABSTRCT The United Nations Security Council is one of the primary organs in the United Nations. The Palestinians at this time called on their country to become a full member of the United Nations (UN). Efforts to obtain permanent membership status in the United Nations began in 2011. However, the Security Council never followed up on the Palestinian request because the United States stated that it would veto the request. Problem Formulation: 1) How is the use of the veto power regulated according to the UN Charter? 2) What are the efforts of the countries of the world in fighting for Palestine to get full rights as a member of the United Nations (UN)? The research method used by the author in this paper is normative juridical research. Normative juridical research is literature law research. Research conclusions: 1) The regulation of the use of the veto power according to the UN Charter is the privilege to express approval, rejection or cancellation of UN decisions. If one of the permanent member states of the UN Security Council exercises its veto power to reject or cancel a UN decision even though the decision has been agreed upon by another member state, the decision cannot be implemented. 2) The efforts of the countries in the world in fighting for Palestine to get full rights as UN membership, namely that Palestine's desire to become a full member of the UN is supported by 143 countries, while 9 countries refused, 25 countries abstained (Israel and the United States are among those who refused).
