Abstract

West Sumatra provides opportunities for every citizen to start a business, one of which is a karaoke venue. However, not all karaoke venues have permits or comply with regulations. The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of Padang City conducted a law enforcement operation at a cafe on Anak Aia Bypass, Padang City.Research questions: What is the role of Satpol PP in regulating unlicensed night entertainment venues? What are the challenges faced by Satpol PP in regulating unlicensed night entertainment venues? The data sources used were primary and secondary data, with data collection techniques including document studies and interviews, analyzed qualitatively. Research findings: The role of Satpol PP in regulating unlicensed night entertainment venues includes providing education and socialization, operating in accordance with local regulations, and increasing vigilance against the misuse of entertainment venues. The challenges faced by Satpol PP in regulating unlicensed night entertainment venues include reactions from the surrounding community, conflicts with communities that lack understanding of licensing requirements, clashes between Satpol PP officers and night entertainment venue owners, and information leaks..
