The existence of Legal Aid Institutions is regulated in Law Number 16 of 2011 concerning
Legal Aid which states that legal aid is a right for every citizen to obtain justice, especially
for those who are economically disadvantaged. Problem formulation 1) What is the role of
the Padang Legal Aid Institution in Realizing Equality of Legal Status for the People of
Padang City 2) What are the obstacles faced by the Padang Legal Aid Institution in Realizing
Equality of Legal Status for the People of Padang City. 3) What efforts are made by the
Padang Legal Aid Institution in Realizing Equality of Legal Status for the People of Padang
City? This study uses a sociological juridical method, Data sources consist of primary and
secondary data, secondary data consists of primary legal materials and secondary legal
material data, as well as data collection techniques through document studies and interviews
analyzed qualitatively, Research results: 1) The Legal Aid Institution has played an active
role in providing legal aid to the Community. 2) The obstacles faced by LBH Padang are that
the Community does not yet know the existence and function of legal aid institutions. 3)
Efforts made by LBH Padang to realize equality before the law, namely stimulants for
advocates/LBH in providing legal aid.
