Abstract

The Legal Aid Institute (LBH) has the right to provide legal assistance as regulated in KUHAP,  exemplified by the case of the Bidar Alam indigenous community in Solok Selatan. This socio legal research explores: (1) the role of LBH Padang in assisting indigenous communities; and  (2) the obstacles encountered. Data were obtained through interviews with LBH staff and  secondary reports, analyzed qualitatively. Findings show LBH Padangs role in litigation, non
litigation, empowerment, restorative justice, advocacy, campaigns, legal education, and  paralegal training. Obstacles include lack of Indigenous Peoples Law, weak land recognition,  limited resources, and external pressures. Recommendations include stronger advocacy and  community empowerment.
