Boarding School is the oldest Islamic educational institution in Indonesia that has a vital role in producing superior human resources intellectually, morally, and spiritually. The existence of Islamic boarding schools is getting stronger with the official recognition of the state through Law Number 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools, which explicitly has three main functions: education, da'wah, and community empowerment. This research raises the formulation of the problem 1) How to implement the educational function in Islamic boarding schools according to Law Number 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools in Padang City, 2) What are the obstacles faced by Islamic boarding schools in the implementation of educational functions according to Law Number 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools in Padang City, 3) What are the efforts made by Islamic boarding schools in overcoming obstacles to the implementation of educational functions according to Law Number 18 of 2019 About Islamic Boarding Schools in Padang City. The research method used is sociological legal research using primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques are carried out through document studies and interviews. The collected data is then analyzed qualitatively. Research Results: 1) The implementation of the educational function in Islamic Boarding Schools according to Law Number 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools in Padang City has not been optimal, 2) The obstacles encountered: namely in the form of indiscipline in the use of official language, technical obstacles in administration and digitization of data, limitations of Human Resources (HR), and funding, 3) Efforts made: a) strengthening internalization of values and career motivation, b) management diligence in adapting digital administration, c) optimization of pragmatic human resource management, d) implementation of independence strategies and cross-subsidies.
