AN ANALYSIS OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO WRITE PERSONAL DESCRIPTIVE TEXT BY USING PICTURE AT SMKN 1 PADANG

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out students’ ability to write personal descriptive text by using picture. The design of this research was descriptive. The total sample members were 31 students, they were chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The result of this research showed that the students’ ability at SMKN 1 Padang in writing personal descriptive text by using picture was high. It was proved that 74.1 % students had high level. Furthermore, Students’ ability to write generic structure in writing personal descriptive text by using picture was low level. It was proved that 61.2 % students had low level. Then, students’ ability to use language features in writing personal descriptive text by using picture was high level. It was proved that 54.8% students had high level; students’ ability to use correct vocabulary in writing personal descriptive text by using picture was high level. It was proved that 74.1 % students had high level; students’ ability to use mechanics in writing personal descriptive text by using picture was high level. It was proved that 100% students had high level. Finally, the researcher gives suggestion for the teachers, students, and the next researchers. The teachers are suggested to use more various and interesting way of their teaching in learning process and give more explanation, more exercises to write personal descriptive text and give others example about descriptive text like described places, animals and things. The students are expected to study more about personal descriptive text and do study more of describing a thing, a person, a place in order to improve their writing ability. The last, the researcher are suggested to the other researcher in the future to find out the other problems from the students’ difficulties in writing personal descriptive text .
