AN ANALYSIS OF PROBLEMS FACED BY THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 9 PADANG IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT

Abstract

Aim of this research was  to describe problem faced by the tenth grade students of SMAN 9 Padang in writing recount text. Population of this research was tenth grade students of SMAN 9 Padang. Total population was 280  students and total sample was 58 students. The researcher used stratified cluster random sampling technique to take the samples. The instrument used to collect data was writing test. The result of the study showed that 55 students (94.83%) has problems. In general, students have problems in writing generic structure. It was indicated that  18 students (31.03%) has problems. The students have problems in using language features. It was indicated that 52 students (89.66%) has problems. The students have problems in using vocabulary. It was indicated that 39 students (67.24%) has problems. The students have problems in using mechanics. It was indicated that 58 students (100%) has problems. So, the researcher suggested the teachers to explain more about the materials of recount text and give more exercises to improve students ability in recount text. Besides, the teacher can explain recount text by using more interesting media.
