An Analysis of the First Grade Students’ Ability to Use Expression of Admitting and Denying Fact in Speaking at MTsS Fastabiqul Khairat Gadung Solok Selatan

This research aims to describe speaking ability of the first grade students at MTsS Fastabiqul Khairat Gadung Solok Selatan in Expression of Admitting and Denying Fact in English. Design of this research was descriptive method. Population of this research was the the first grade students at MTsS Fastabiqul Khairat Gadung Solok Selatan. Total number of population was 30 students. Data were collected through speaking test. The reliability index of the test was 0,90 (Appendix 4). Based on the result of the data analysis, it was found the students’ ability in expression of admitting and denying fact in general was high. It was provided by the evidence that 60% students (18 students) can use expression of admitting and denying fact well. There were 80% (24 students) who had been classified in high ability in expressing ideas (context), 66,67% (20 students) who had been classified into high ability in using correct grammar, 60% (18 students) who had been classified into low ability in using appropriate vocabulary, 66,67% (20 students) who had been classified into low ability in pronouncing the word, and 53,33% (16 students) who had been classified into low ability in fluency in expression of admitting and denying fact. Based on the researcg findings, the researcher concludes that the speaking ability of the first grade students’ in expression of admitting and denying fact was high. Related to this conclusion, the researcher suggested to English teachers to give more exercises to make students more understood. The students to do more practices especially im appropriate vocabulay, pronunciation and fluency.
