AN ANALYSIS OF THE THIRD YEAR STUDENTS’ PROBLEMS IN WRITING COMPLEX SENTENCE CONTAINING ADJECTIVE CLAUSE AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to describe the third year students' problems in writing complex sentence containing adjective clause.This research used descriptive method. The total number of population was 53 students. The researcher applied total sampling technique to get the sample. The instrumentation used to get the data was writing sentence test in the form of writing complex sentences containing adjective clauses. After analyzing the data the researcher found that generally, the third year students of English Department had problems in writing complex sentences containing adjective clause. It was proved by the fact that 2834 problems were faced by the students in writing complex sentences containing adjective clause. Specifically, 732.5 (25.85%) of problems were faced by the students in writing complex sentences by using relative pronoun as subject. 1048 (37.00%) of problems were faced by the students in writing complex sentences by using relative pronoun as object. 1053 (37.15%) of problems were faced by the students in writing complex sentences by using relative pronoun indicating possession. By having known the students’ problems, the lecturers are suggested to minimize the students’ problems by applying a good method of teaching and the lecturers should give explanation in detail. The students are suggested to find out some good ways to minimize the problems. Then, other researchers are suggested to do a research in order to find out the factors that bring about the students’ problems in writing complex sentence containing adjective clause.
