AN ANALYSIS OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS’ CONVERSATION ABILITY IN EXPRESSIING ASKING FOR AND GIVING SOMETHING AT SMPN 27 PADANG

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to find out the second grade students’ conversation ability in expressing asking for and giving something at SMPN 27 Padang. The design of this research was descriptive. The population of this research was 238 students at the second grade of SMPN 27 Padang who are registered in 2016/2017 academic year. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique in taking the sample. It means the sample was the class which is randomly selected as a sample. The result of this study showed that the students’ conversation ability in expressing asking for and giving something was high. It was supported by the data 70 students had high ability. In specific, students’ ability in expressing content is low. It is supported by the data that 90 students had low ability. Students’ ability in vocabulary is high. It is supported by the data that 97students was high ability in vocabulary. Students’ ability in grammar is high. It is supported by the data that 63 students was high ability in grammar. Students’ ability in fluency is high, it is supported by the data that 60 students was high ability in fluency. Students’ ability in pronunciation is low. It is supported by the data that 83 students was low ability in pronunciation. The researcher found that the students had high ability in grammar, fluency, vocabulary in conversation. Based on the result of the research, the teacher are suggested to maintain students’ ability and also improve it. English teachers are suggested to find the appropriate ways to improve students’ conversation ability especially in content, and pronunciation, by doing more practices and using it in daily life. The students are suggested to maintain their ability and improve it by practicing conversation in daily life. For the other researcher, by having the result of this research, the researcher suggested the next researcher to find out the students’ difficulties in expressing asking for and giving something.
