AN ANALYSIS ON THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS OF READING TEXT AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this reseach is to describe the second year students’ reading ability to answer question of English Department of Bung Hatta University. The sample of this study was 20 reading text at the second year students of English Department of Bung Hatta University. The method used in this study was a descriptive method. In collecting data, the reseacher used reading test in the form of multiple choice test. The reliability index of reading test was 0.90 (very reliable). It was found that 8 students (40%) had very good ability, 6 students (30%) had good abilityand 6 students (30%) had moderate ability. It means that students’ reading ability of the second year was very good.In conclusion, since the result of this study showed that students’ reading ability was very good, the reseacher suggested the lecturer to give exercises to maintain the students’ reading ability. The students are suggested to do more practices to get better ability in reading than usual.
