Abstrak

SUMMARY

This research is motivated by the number of students who have difficulty in solving the problem of social arithmetic. In addition, the value of mathematics test students VII grade MTsN Parak Laweh Padang 2016/2017 lesson years are still many who are under the value of KKM. For that we need to analyze the difficulties experienced by students as well as describe the factors causing students experiencing such difficulties.

The purpose of this research are: 1) To know the type of difficulty and how many percent of the difficulties experienced by students in doing social arithmetic problems on the students of grade VII MTsN Parak Laweh, 2) To find the cause of student difficulties in doing social arithmetic problems in class students VII MTsN Parak Laweh Padang.

The type of this research is descriptive research and using qualitative research method. The study population is all students of class VII MTsN Parak Laweh Padang. Sampling using purposive sampling technique and selected class VII2 as sample research. The research instrument consisted of daily test results on social arithmetic materials and interviews.

The results of this study indicate that: 1) students who have difficulty concept 10.52%, 2) difficulty principle 36,84%, 3) difficulties algorithm 73,68%. Factors that cause difficulties for students are: 1) internal factors in the form of intelligence, learning method, and physiological condition, 2) external factors such as learning facilities, relationships with friends, relationships with parents / family, and the surrounding community.

From the results of research, suggestions that researchers can provide for the difficulties experienced by students can be reduced that teachers should examine every exercise done by students, in the learning process should provide a strong movement in learning so that students are more spirit and can focus in learning. And then the teacher should do an analysis of the difficulties that are often experienced by students in solving the problem so it can determine the appropriate steps to overcome these difficulties.
