THE STUDY OF MATHEMATICS LEARNING RESULT FROM STUDENTS WHO STUDIED WITH COGNITIVE STYLE INDEPENDENT FIELD AND FIELD DEPENDENT AT 7th GRADE SMPN 31 PADANG
Abstrak
SUMMARY
Background of this research is the lack knowledge of teachers about the importance of learning styles, especially the cognitive style in learning process towards the learning outcomes that obtained by students. In the learning process, teachers are often unaware of such differences, so students are accustomed to learning in a less precise way. Therefore, the research was done about the study of mathematics learning outcomes from students who studied with cognitive style both field independent and field dependent at 7th grade SMPN 31 Padang.
The purpose of this study is to determine the results of learning mathematics from students who study with cognitive style both field independent and field dependent at 7th grade SMPN 31 Padang. The hypothesis in this research is the result of learning mathematics of students who study with field independent better than the field dependent in 7th grade SMPN 31 Padang.
The research type is descriptive. Sampling was done by cluster sampling based on the result of questionnaire that has been distributed to the entire population of 271 students which the sample of 28 students with field independent and 28 students with field dependent. The instruments in this study are questionnaires to determine the sample class and the description test to see the learning outcomes of the two sample groups.
From the data analysis, the value of t = 3,93 however with α = 0,05 and dk = 54 is 1,67. In this case, , thus the hypothesis : is rejected. Thus it can be concluded that the results of learning in mathematics from students who study with independent field is better than the dependent field at 7th grade SMPN 31 Padang. Thus it is suggested to the teacher to be able to know the difference of cognitive style both field independent and field dependent in learning process so that teacher can guide student to get the field independent of cognitive style. Since the students who study in cognitive style, the field independent has better learning outcomes than field dependent.
