ANALISIS KESALAHAN SISWA DALAM MATERI SEGIEMPAT BERDASARKAN KATEGORI NEWMAN PADA SISWA KELAS VII SMPN 33 PADANG

Abstrak

Background of this research is low math test scores of seven grade at SMPN 33 Padang. The median score of all seven grade at SMPN 33 Padang just 45,04. One of the cause is the occurrence of an error when answering the test.To overcome this problem, one way is to analyze the student’s errors when answering the test.

              The type of this research is descriptive research using qualitative research method. Subject of this research was fifteen students from the third of seven grade at SMPN 33 Padang. The number of subject was selected by purposive sampling. The data of this research were collected by the result of the student’s test. Questions of the test were made by the teacher. So, it does not need to be checked the reliability dan validity of the questions. Because the questions made by teacher already comply the rules.

              The result of this research is found some groups by Newman’s error categories. There are five groups of error categories. The first, reading error occurred as much as 25,58%. Second, reading comprehension difficulty occurred as much as 11,63%. Third, transform error occurred as much as 11,63%. Fourth, weakness in process skill occurred as much as 34,88%. And the last, encoding error occurred as much as 16,28%.

              There are five categories of Newman’s categories that occurred to seven grade at SMPN 33 Padang. The most category is weakness in process skill. Based on the conclusion, it is suggested to the math teachers to provide the sample questions and completion questions for student. The student also need to get a lot of practice to get used to answering practice questions.
