This study is based on the result of learning mathematics students who are still less than the value of KKM (Criteria Completeness Minimum). In accordance with the background of the problem, the learning process is still focused on the teacher so that students are less motivated, difficulty express opinions and ask, students tend to copy the work of friends during the exercise, student learning outcomes are still many under the KKM. One effort that can be done to improve student learning outcomes is by applying the learning techniques Spotlight.

The hypothesis of this study is the proportion of students who achieve mastery of mathematics learning outcomes that apply the technique Spotlight better than the proportion of students who achieve mastery of learning outcomes of mathematics learning applying regular learning in class VIII SMP 04 Koto New Dharmasraya. The purpose of this study is to determine the proportion of students who achieve mastery of learning achievement of mathematics learning applying Spotlight technique is higher than the proportion of students who achieve mastery of mathematics learning outcomes learning applying regular learning in class VIII Junior High School 04 Koto Baru Dharmasraya.

This type of research is experimental research. Population in this research is student of class VIII SMP N 04 Koto Baru Dharmasraya year lesson 2016/2017. The sample in this research is class VIII.1 of 20 students as experimental class and class VIII.2 as many as 21 students as control class. Based on the data analysis of student learning outcomes in both classes of samples obtained hypothesis test is Xcount2 = 6,55 and with db = 1, obtained p <0,02, means H0 rejected and H1 accepted. Thus, the hypothesis that the proportion of mathematics learning outcomes of students whose learning apply Spotlight technique is higher than the proportion of mathematics learning outcomes of students applying regular learning to grade VIII students of SMP N 04 Koto Baru Dharmasraya. Then it can be concluded that the proportion of mathematics learning outcomes of students applying Spotlight technique is better than the mathematics learning outcomes of students applying regular learning. Researchers suggest that teachers can use this learning as an alternative to make the students' mathematics learning outcomes better.
