Abstrak
The objective of this research is to describe the ability in writing poems based on short stories in students of 8th grade of Senior High School Number 2 Satap Bayang Utara, Pesisir Selatan Regency. The theoriesused in this study are thetheory on Diction, Imaging, Language Style and Rhyme using Wahyuni’s book (2014) and the theory on Diction using Gani’s book (2014).
The type of research was qualitative study using descriptive method. The objects of the research were student of 8th grade of SMP Negeri 2 Satap Bayang Utara, Pesisir Selatan Regency, employing 12 students as the research object.
The result found thatthe ability in writing poems based on text of short stories in student of 8th grade of Senior High School Number 2 Satap Bayang Utara, Pesisir Selatan Regency, as observed from the use of diction, imaging, language style and rhyme, is categorized as able to write the poem, with average marks of 80.33, which isabove the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM)of 75. The use of short stories enablesthe studentstodevelop their imagination to be expressed into writing of poems.
Based on the data analysis and discussion, it is concluded that the ability in writing poems based on short stories in students of 8th grade of Senior High School Number 2 Satap Bayang Utara, Pesisir Selatan Regency, as observed from the use of diction, imaging, language style and rhyme, is categorized as able to writepoems, with the average marks of 80.33 which is above the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM)of 75. The use of short stories could help the students in expressing ideas of anything they have readand felt during the writing of the poems. Moreover, the use of short stories helps the students in developing their imagination to be expressed into writing of poems. Based on the conclusion, the author suggests; (1), to the teachers of Senior High School Number 2 Satap Bayang Utara, Pesisir Selatan Regency, to use this study as a reference in learning materials, especially in learning the topic of poems writing; and (2), to the students ofSenior High School Number 2 Satap Bayang Utara, Pesisir Selatan Regency, to be more motivated to write poems.
