Abstrak
Education is a universal activity in human life, because wherever and whenever in the world there is education. Education is essentially a human effort to humanize humanity itself, which is to civilize people ". Education is an important means to improve the quality of human resources in ensuring the sustainability of a nation's development. IPS learning is one of the subjects taught in elementary school. IPS is a science that examines the social problems that exist around us. Through IPS learning, students are required to understand the basic concepts of social studies, and understand the skills, values and attitudes according to their nature as social human beings, so that students will be able to solve the social problems that occur in the surrounding environment, and have the basic skills necessary for life community. Given IPS is a science that prepares, nurtures, and shapes learners' abilities that master basic knowledge, attitudes, values and skills necessary for life in society, and therefore must be presented with meaningful, fun, creative, dynamic, dialogical learning paradigms .
The type of research used is experimental research in the form of quantitative. Sugiyono (2009: 8), states that "Quantitative research methods can be interpreted as research methods based on positivism philosophy, used to examine the population or specific samples, data collection using research instruments, data analysis is quantitative / statistical.
The average of the final test result of the students in the experimental class is 78,3 and the control class is 70,41 with the Hypothesis Testing level obtained tcount> ttable where (2,931> 1,99), which proved by significant level (a) = 0,05 this means there is a significant difference to the learning outcomes of IPS students using Mind Mapping learning model on the learning outcomes of IPS grade IV students in SD Negeri 66 payakumbuh.
