Abstrak

Say that the absorption word as a loan word is a word that borrowed from another language and then more or less adjusted to the rules of the language itself. In other words, it can distinguish between original vocabulary and absorption words. Thus it can be said that the absorption word is a word that has been taken or absorbed from other languages (regional languages and foreign languages) and has been used in everyday life (Kridalaksana, 2011: 112).

This research aims to describe the students’ perceptions of SMAN 16 Padang towards the use of standard absorption words of Indonesian language in social media. Data collection is done by: distributing questionnaires to class XI IPS 1 and XI MIA 4 with 80 items of absorption words. Data validity testing is done by triangulation techniques. Data analysis is done by: (1) classifying data based on types of absorption words, (2) outlining standard absorption words based on usage (often used, sometimes used and never used), (3) interpreting data, and (4) concluded from the students’ perceptions of SMAN 16 Padang toward the use of standard absorption words in social media.

Based on data analysis and discussion, it’s founded the results of different students' perceptions, namely students of class XI MIA 4 of 80 words provided there were 55 non-standard absorption words used by students as the Indonesian standard absorbtion words. Whereas the students only use the correct 25 Indonesian standard absorption words. Students tend to use the word foreign language instead of using the Indonesian standard word absorption. In class XI IPS 1 with 80 words provided, there are 53 non-standard absorption words that are used by students as the Indonesian standard absorption words. While the standard absorption words are only 27 used by students. Factors of student tend to use foreign languages because of the frequently used social languages and social media languages.

The conclusion of this research is: Students tend to use foreign languages rather than the Indonesian standard absorption words. Students assume the words they have used so far are in accordance with KBBI and the use of foreign languages make students more confident. Students should use the Indonesian word for absorption because the word has been matched into the KBBI V.
