The Influence of Word Square Learning Model on Learning Outcomes of Civics of 5th Grade Students in SDN 29 Purus Padang
Abstrak
The educational process is done by educators consciously, deliberately and responsibly to bring the students into physical and spiritual maturity and social maturity so that later they become a person who is capable of performing physical and spiritual duties†(Uno, 2015:138). Civic learning will be a knowledge, skill, and cultivation of attitudes and values for learners if the teacher is able to determine the best way of delivering the material on Civics. Based on observation and interview with teachers of class V in SDN 29 Purus Padang, it is found that when learning process takes place, the teacher uses lecture, question and answer, and assignment method so that the students pay less attention to the teacher and are busy talking to their friends. Effort made by the researcher in overcoming this problem is to apply the Word Square learning model in the process of learning Civics.
This is an experimental research in which the population of this research is all fifth grade students of SDN 29 Purus Padang. By using Simple Random Sampling technique, it is found that the sample class is class VA. Furthermore, the research design is True Experimental Design which is Posttest-Only Control Design.
The result of data analysis using t-test shows that tcount > ttable (3,45>2,028) so that hypothesis H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Moreover, the average of learning outcomes in the experimental class is 82,22 and in control class is 71,75.
Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that there is the influence of Word Square learning model on learning outcomes of Civics of 5th grade students in SDN 29 Purus Padang. Hopefully, this model can be applied on Civics in order to improve students’ learning outcomes to be more optimal.
