Knowledge and Skills of Teachers in Science Learning Based on Information and Communication Technology in High Schools in Padang City

Abstrak

In this background, there are still many teachers who have problems in using ICT for learning. This is because the teacher's workload is too much so they don't have time to develop creative teaching materials. In addition, teachers are unprepared to integrate ICT in learning because of the lack of teacher competence in utilizing ICT. This study aims to determine differences in teacher's knowledge of ICT based on the level of education and work experience, knowing the skills of teachers on ICT based on education level and work experience and knowing the relationship between teacher knowledge and teacher skills in ICT-based science learning.

This type of research is quantitative descriptive. Sampling was carried out by preliminary sampling, so that there were 131 samples of science teachers in the city of Padang. The analysis was carried out descriptively and inference using SPSS 16.0. The results showed that, based on the level of education of teachers' knowledge of ICT there were significant differences with t = -3.776 (p = 0.000 <0.05). The teacher's skills in ICT based on education level have a significant difference with t = -3.482 (p = 0.001 <0.05). Based on the work experience of teacher's knowledge of ICT there are significant differences with the value of F = 22,909, p = 0,000 <0.05, for teachers' skills towards ICT also shows a significant difference with the value of F = 31,528, p = 0,000 <0.05 and there is a skill relationship with teacher's knowledge of ICT with very strong correlation coefficient (r) of 0.920.

The conclusion of this study is that there are differences in teacher's knowledge of ICT based on education level and work experience, teacher's skills on ICT based on education level and work experience and there is a very strong relationship between teacher knowledge and skills in ICT-based science learning.
