Abstrak

This research is motivated by the number of student learning outcomes under Minimum Criteria (KKM). Biology teachers still tend to use lecture and discussion methods, where the students do not understand the material that has been submitted by the teacher. The students are less active in the learning so that not the maximum workmanship by the students this causes low learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the learning outcomes of cognitive aspects of the value obtained and know the activities of students in learning.         This type of research is experimental research. The subjects of the study were 36 students of class X MIPA 2 and class X MIPA 4 with 36 students. The instrument of this research is the final test sheet of learning result.Based on the average of experiment class learning result is 84,67 and control class is 77,67. Based on t-test analysis of student learning result shows that tcount = 2,71 and ttable = 1,96. The value of t count is greater than ttable then H0 is rejected and H1 accepted means there is a significant difference of experimental grade and control class learning result.

From this research, it can be concluded that the learning model of POE has an effect on the biology learning result of the students of class X MIPA SMA Negeri 3 Padang. Suggestions from the researchers are based on the results and conclusions in this study, the authors have some suggestions, that teachers can apply the model of learning POE to improve student biology learning outcomes as an alternative in improving student thinking, for other researchers that can do research on the model learning POE on other subjects.
