The Learning Media Development of Audiovisual Based Biography Text for Grade X Students of Public Senior High School 2 of Kerinci Regency

Abstrak

The learning process at school must be able to utilize the entire available infrastructure so that it can support the learning process not only the methods but also the media. The media's role is very important in learning because it is an integral part in the whole process of education in all programs and levels. Therefore, this study aimed to develop the audio visual based learning media for Indonesian Bahasa learning, biography text material, for grade X students, and to find out its validity, practicality, and effectiveness.

Media is anything that can be used to transmit messages from the sender to the recipient, so that it can stimulate students’ thoughts, feelings, attention, and interests (Sadirman,et al, 2014). Therefore, media can be used to increase students’ learning retention toward the learning material (Musfiqon, 2012).

The type of the study was development research. The audio visual media were developed using a 4-D model of development (Trianto, 2015). The study only applied three stages, which were: (1) the defining stage, (2) the designing stage, and (3) the developing stage. The study was conducted during the second semester of 2017/2018 year study. The data collecting was done through validating and testing the developed media. The designed media planning was validated by two validators namely the media and the content, and then two trials were conducted for six students and 21 students of grade X. The data analysis technique used the quantitative data in the form of description to describe the validity, the practicality, and the effectiveness of the developed audio visual based media learning.

Based on the data analysis, it was found out things as follow. First, the media development was through a manufacturing process that required hardware and software. Second, the product produced was quite reliable which could be seen from: (1) the result of the validity test which was 91, 84% with a very valid criteria, (2) the result of the practicality test by the teachers which was 90, 46% with a very practical criteria, (3) the test result of the effectiveness done by the students on a small scale which was 80,83, on a limited scale which was 72,85. Then, the final test of small scale was 83,33, and the limited scale was 80, 95. In accordance with the result of the study, it can be concluded that the produced audio visual based learning media for biography text material for grade X students meets the criteria of validity, practicality and effectiveness.
