The Character Values of the Main Character in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara

Abstrak

The novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara is one example of literary work that has values of character education and motivation. Character and motivation education values can be seen from the main characters in the novel. The purpose of this study was to describe: (1) the educational values of the main characters in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara, (2) intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara.

The theory used as a reference in research is the theory of character education values put forward by Syamsul Kurniawan (2013: 39) saying that there are 18 values identified for character education, namely: religious, honest, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creative, independent, democratic, curiosity, national spirit, love for the homeland, respect for achievement, friendly or communicative, love of peace, love of reading, caring for the environment, caring socially, and responsibility. While motivation to use the theory of Hamzah B Uno (2015: 1) says that motivation is the basic drive that moves a person to behave. Motivation is divided into two, namely intrinsic motives and extrinsic motives.

The type of research used is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data of this study are in the form of words, sentences, expressions relating to the values of character and motivation education in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara (2013). The source of the data in this study is the Mata Kedua novel by Ramaditya Adikara consisting of 368 pages. Data collection was done by: (1) reading and understanding the Mata Kedua novel by Ramaditya Adikara as a whole, (2) recording and underlining the things related to the research focus that is about the educational value of the main character and motivation in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara, and (3) classifying data about the educational value of the main character and motivation in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara. Data validity testing techniques are carried out with detailed description techniques and triangulation techniques. Data analysis was done by: (1) classifying data, (2) interpreting data describing the values of character and motivation education, and (3) formulating conclusions from the analysis of the educational values of the main character and motivation in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara.

Based on the findings and analysis, that the novel Mata kedua by Ramaditya Adikara continues the tradition of the novel Ayahku Bukan Pembohong by Ramaditya Adikara because both have a life struggle for a main character. In addition, continued the tradition of the novel Merry Riana Mimpi Sejuta Dolar by Alberthine Endah because the main characters both want to achieve a desire and realize dreams.

It can be concluded that in the novel Mata Kedua by Ramaditya Adikara the dominant values of character education are the value of social care and friendliness and communicative and the dominant motivation is external motivation.
