Abstrak

The learning process can be followed well and attract the attention of students when using learning methods that are appropriate to the level of development of students and in accordance with the learning material. Therefore learning mathematics must be based on the characteristics of mathematics and students themselves (Markaban, 2008: 1-2).Based on observations made in class V SDN 108 / VIII Sarimulya, it was found that learning was still going in one direction and was monotonous.Students are less active, because students only pay attention and record the material given by the teacher. As well as the lack of use of discovery methods in the learning process. Therefore, one solution to improve students' problem solving abilities is to use guided discovery methods in the process of learning mathematics.

The type of research used was experimental research with the population of this study were all students in grade V SDN 108 / VIII Sarimulya as many as 43 students who were divided into two classes, namely class VA and class VB. The sample in this study was conducted using the Total Sampling technique, so that the VA class was obtained as the control class and the VB class was the experimental class. The data analyzed in this study is the final test of the ability to solve mathematical problems in class V students collected through a description test.

The results of data analysis by testing hypotheses using the t-test is obtained tcount=  and ttable = 2,019.This means that tcount> ttable, and this means that H0 is rejected and H1 is acceptedso it can be concluded that the use of this guided discovery method influences the mathematical problem solving ability of VB SDN 108/VIII Sarimulya class students.

Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that there is an influence of guided discovery methods on students' mathematical problem solving abilities. For this reason it is recommended for the class teacher to study mathematics to be able to apply the Guided Discovery method in the learning process.
