Gramatical cohesion in the short story compilation Panggilan Rasul by Hamsad Rangkuti

Abstrak

The semantic relationship between every component and gramatical cohesion became the first goal to analyze short stories compilation of Panggilan Rasul by Hamsad Ragkuti. In accordance to this, the writer was encouraged to explore the cohesion aspect originated from language detection that was used by the author in the short story compilation,  in order to give an explanation towards the cohesion related aspects benith it. The study was aimed to describe the utilization of gramatical coherence in the object study, short story compilation Panggilan rasul.

The theory that played as the role model in the study was Zaimar (2009) opinion about gramatical cohesion. According to her, gramatical cohesion can be classified into four categories, such as reference, substitution, elipsis, and conjungtion.

This is a qualitative study and descriptive method was used. In the study the data was every word that belong to gramatical cohesion including reference, substitution, elipsis and conjungtion that was taken from the short story Panggilan Rasul. Data collection technique involved several steps; (1) reading the whole book comprehensively, (2) identifying data based on gramatical cohesion, (3) classifying theory-based findings, (4) classifying the data according to gramatical cohesion. Data analysis technique was used through these following steps; (1) Data identification, (2) Data classification, (3) Data description, (4) Study results conclusion.

According  to the data analysis and discussion, there were several results found.  First, in the short story Panggilan Rasul by Hamsad Rangkuti, 95 references were found where 55 of them were endofora and the other 40 were exofora. Second, there were 4 data substitution. Third, in the story, there were 3 elipsis data. Finally, 147 data was configured as conjungtion. So, it can be concluded that Hamsad Rangkuti has a specific, realistic and descriptive semantic and he has a powerful language that was well-constructed. By doing a deep scrutiny towards the language construction through gramatical cohesion, a lingistic article becomes confounded and was equipped with aesthetic value structurally. So that the readers or linguistic-goer can easily understand the meaning behind the storyline in the short stories compilation, Panggilan Rasul by Hamsad Rangkuti.
