The Conflict of Main Character and Character Education Values in the Novel Koala Kumal by Raditya Dika

Abstrak

The literary work produced by the author has displayed conflicts that had an impact on the personality of the character so that the literary work also has described the human psyche, even though the author only displayed the conflict fictionally. Conflict is used as an element that builds the structure of the flow and adds to the level of attractiveness of the literary work itself. In addition, conflict can also influence the characters, such as in the novel Koala Kumal. This research consisted of conflict theory and the value of character education. According to Nurgiyantoro (2010: 122) conflict (conflict), which incidentally is an important event (so, it will be a functional event, main, or kernel), is an essential element in the development of the plot. Meanwhile, according to Ramli (in Gunawan, 2012: 24) character education has the same essence and meaning as moral education and education.

               The data in this research were described in the form of words that consisted of internal and external conflicts and values of character education. The data obtained were analyzed by (1) grouping the data according to the aspects studied, (2) processing the data that had been grouped, (3) interpreting the results of the analysis, and (4) formulating the results of the research conclusions.

               The results of this research indicated that first, internal conflicts and external social conflicts were found. And on aspects of the value of character education found, namely religious, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creative, independent, curious, communicative, love peace, love reading, social care, and responsibility.

               Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the dominant conflict of the main character was internal conflict and the dominant character education values were communicative, and the value of character education whose data was not found in the novel Koala Kumal by Raditya Dika was honest, the spirit of nationality, love for the country, caring for the environment, democratic, and respecting achievement.
