Abstrak

Education is defined as a process of creating intellectual and emotional basic skills towards nature and fellow human beings" Zen, et al (2012:41). Mathematic learning is a teaching and learning activity built by teachers to develop students’ thinking creativity to improve the students’ thinking ability. Based on the observation conducted in class V of State Elementary School 43 Sungai Sapih, it is found that students’ creativity in learning mathematics is still low and the learning result of mathematics from many students is still under KKM. The effort conducted by the researcher to solve the problems is  applying the Problem Based Learning approach in the process of mathematic learning.

The type of this research is experimental research with all 5th grade students  of  State Elementary School 43 Sungai Sapih 2017/2018 school year as the population. The sample of this research is the students from class VA dan VB in State Elementary School 43 Sungai Sapih. The sampling technique is obtained by conducting total sampling, class VA as the experimental class and class VB as the control class. The analyzed data of this research is students’s learning creativity and the scores of students’ mathematics learning result.

The result of this research shows that the development of students’ creativity is good enough with the percentage  31%. The analysis of mathematics learning result using test-t shows that the result of means that . Therefore, hyphothesis H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. The average of learning result in experimental class is 79 and the average in control class is 68,41.

Based on the result of the research which has been obtained, it can be concluded that the mathematics learning result of 5th grade students in State Elementary School 43 Sungai Sapih where the Problem Based Learning approach applied is better than the result of students’ mathematics learning which applies the  basic learning. Therefore, this model can be applied to reach the more optimal result of mathematics learning.

Key Words: Creativity, Learning Result, Problem Based Learning.
