Main Character’s Personality Development in Pulang by Tere Liye

Abstrak

TereLiye’sPulangis a novel that expressed the main character personality development. Her works tells a story of a young man named Bujang, who has realized the very meaning of his life.

            This research is held based on the theory of Suryabrata (2012) which said that personality development is divided to six (6) steps: (1) changes in behave or variation, (2) changes in behavior structur and organization, (3) activity area growth, (4) changes in reality point of view, (5) act differentiation increasing, (6) stratification.

            This research is qualitative research that used descriptive metod. The data is collected by using four steps: (1) reading and understanding the work, (2) write and mark the object found, (3) Group the data found based on the theory used, (4) insert the data into a tabel. After the data found, author analyze the data using three (3) steps: (1) classify the data found, (2) describe the data that related to the research, (3) make a conclusion from analysis result to see the main character’s personality development in the novel.

            From the analysis held, author has found: (1) the changes of the behavior variation started from the moment when Bujang wants to went to the ciy to follow his father’s trace until Bujang had being The chief of Tong’s family. (2) Bujang using his intelligence to easily adapted with his new environment shows the changes of the organization and structur of his acts. (3) tose how Bujang could learn from his past, and manage his future made author realize the increasing of his activity area. (4) the changes in reality point of view can be seen on how Bujang could accept the fact in his life. (5) watching how Bujang always shows good manners reveals the differentiation of act is increasing. (6)stratification of act shown in how Bujang could choose what feeling has to be express and what is not has to be expressed. From all the personality development found above, author conclude that Bujang’s personality is developing is seen when the main character stay along with TaukeMudadan successfully being a very famous Parewain underground world. EventhoughBujang is a parewa, he always kept the word from his Mamakto never drunk and eat pork which means he still followed the Islamic rule. In the end, Bujang finally turn to God’s blessed path.
