Lexical Cohesion in the Hujan Novel By Tere Liye (Structural Study)

Abstrak

Cohesion refers more to form, it is meaning the sentences that build the paragraph must be closely linked. Between the first sentence and the next sentence must have a continuous relationship. These coherent sentences will be realized in a different form. Even though it is different, but the sentence will have to make cohesion.               The purpose of the research is to describe: 1) the type of lexical cohesion in the Hujannovel by Tere Liye; 2) the function of lexical cohesion in the Hujan novel by Tere Liye. The theory used for lexical cohesion is the Sumarlam’s theory and for the theory of literature uses the theory of Nurgiyantoro. The six types of lexical cohesion include repetition, synonym, antonym, collocation, hyponym, and equivalence. This research uses qualitative descriptive research with the Hujan novel as an object of research. The research method used is a qualitative method, method used to describe the six types of lexical cohesion in theHujannovel  by Tere Liye.               The results of the lexical cohesion of the Hujan novel by Tere Liye by using Sumarlam's theory, which found six types of lexical cohesion which include: repetition to emphasize certain words in paragraphs; synonyms (word equivalents) to provide variations of words, so they are not rigid and boring; antonym (opposite word) to explain differences from one word to another; collocation (collocate words) to support cohesion in paragraphs; hyponym (top-down relationship) to bind relationships between elements in paragraphs; and equivalence (word equivalence) to indicate the existence of equivalent words.               The conclusion of this research that the most common lexical cohesion is anaphoric repetition and also synonym and clearly proves that the Hujannovel by Tere Liye is very concerned about the word cohesion in the paragraph so that the understanding of the reader is the same as the author's understanding. Keywords : Discourse, Lexical Cohesion, Hujan  Novel
