Analysis of Students Metacognitive Ability in Completing Math Word Problem at Class XII IPA SMAN 1 Lengayang
Abstrak
This research aimed at figuring out the student’s metacognitive ability related to completing math real word problems for student’s of class XI IPA of SMAN 1 Lengayang. This is because theirs are already have good skills and knowledge, but have not been able yet to use their skill properly. It was proven by the results of tasks that had been given before. The students are still not able to express their ideas. In any case, there are students who have not been able to link the completion with the material that has been learned. As well as students have difficulty in making mathematical models of story problems.
This type of research was descriptive research using qualitative research method. The population of study was all of students in class XII IPA SMAN 1 Lengayang. The sampling was based on purposive sampling technique with the sample class XII science class 1. The research instrument were written tests and interview guidelines.
The results showed that students with high metacognitive ability who had fulfilled the indicators of planning, monitoring and evaluation activities. The students with moderate metacognitive skills had not all fulfilled the planning, monitoring and evaluation activities, and for the students with low metacognitive abilities, the planning activities had not been done well and they had not fulfilled monitoring activities and evaluation well either.
From the results of the study, it was suggested that students should recognize their own abilities or potential as a provision in solving problems optimally. Other research instruments was also used in collecting data the results of the research are better and also consider the right time so that the data which was obtained really helpful in achieving the research goals.
