Error Analysis In Solving The Source Of Mathematical Stories Based On Watson Error Category In Students Of Class VII SMPN 31 Padang

Abstrak

This research was motivated by almost all students making mistakes in solving math story problems. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze the total percentage of each type of mistake made by students and describe the factors that cause students to make these mistakes. Error analysis based on the Watson Error Category is one method that can be used to analyze errors to solve mathematical problems.               This research is descriptive and qualitative research is the method used in the study. This study has subjects that are all students of class VII.4 and has test and interview instruments.               The results of this study indicate errors made by students with 31 students. Students inappropriate data of 26.61%, inappropriate procedures of 57.26%, omitted data of 19.35%, omitted conclusion of 53.23%, response level conflict of 30.65%, skill hierarchy problem of 29.03%, and above others of 0, 81%. The factors that cause students to make mistakes are as follows: 1) Students enter data incorrectly into the operation, 2) Students do not understand the concept of the set, 3) Student students are incomplete in the questions, 4) Students are not thorough in the problem, 5) Students forget to write conclusions, 6) Students are still inadequate in the questions, 7) Students are still lacking in calculation, 8) Students are still confused about what happened in the answers, 9) Students do not answer.                From the results of the study it is suggested that students should be accustomed to starting making known and asked questions on math stories, multiplying practice questions, and getting used to writing conclusions from each math story. In addition, the teacher should remind the material that has been taught to start new related material. Keywords : Error Analysis, Math Story Problems, Watson's Error Category.
