Analysis of Mathematical Connection Ability of Class VII Students of 18 State Junior High Schools in 2017/2018 Academic Year
Abstrak
This research is motivated by the lack of mathematical connection ability of students, one of them is using related mathematical ideas and interrelated, besides that students cannot link the material being studied with the previous material, the teacher tends to give students questions in the form of routine questions, given the teacher is done by students just to add value. The purpose of this study is to analyze the mathematical connection ability of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 18 Padang in the academic year 2017/2018.
This research is a descriptive study, with a population of all students in class VII of 18 State Junior High School in the academic year 2017/2018, while the sample of class VII9 is taken by purposive sampling technique. The instruments in this study are test questions and interview guidelines.
The results of this study are, the mathematical connection capabilities of students based on the three indicators obtained 30.28% with very less categories. With the division of the group, the high group reached 47.91%, including the sufficient category, the moderate group reached 29.48% including the very poor category, and the group less reached 4.92% including the very poor category.
From the research conducted, students' mathematical connection ability is still lacking, this can be seen in the mathematical connection ability indicator, especially in recognizing and applying mathematics to other fields. From the results of the study it is suggested that teachers can provide exercises in order to improve students' mathematical connection abilities.
